How to Increase the Influence of the Board: Case Study
The situation — £1bn+ turnover privately
owned freight company with over 5,000 staff. Company highly successful
and stable yet facing new competitive challenges. Major development initiatives
needed to succeed in order to maintain and increase success.
The audience — full board of highly experienced
and professional directors with a long history of working successfully
together.
The brief — develop their capability to
influence both internally and externally to increase the likelihood that
the company would deliver on all its development promises and continue
to grow the profitability of the group.
The solution — two facilitators took the
board through a two-day team workshop based on the unique intellectual
property of contained within The
Team Workshop.
The outcome — the two days were very intense
as each individual learned about power and influence, how it applied to
their group stakeholders and also their individual stakeholders. As a
result, each felt far more capable of influencing the right outcomes for
the organisation. In the year since their workshop, the company has indeed
delivered all its projects. Also, as a direct result of the workshop,
they were able to successfully avoid industrial action and now have an
excellent relationship with their union.
