Other Experts in Power and Influence, and Related Fields

Behind The Gautrey Group you'll find Colin Gautrey who is a specialist in the practical use of power and influence in the workplace. Over the years he has developed a network of other experts, friends and colleagues. He is able to utilise this network to help his clients, as well has having fun developing new thought leadership in power and influence. Here are some of the key people he works with, and those whose work he believes makes a great contribution to the field.

Allan R. Cohen, Babson College, MA
Professor; Edward A. Madden Distinguished Professor of Global Leadership; Graduate Dean (Interim)

Influence without Authority was one of the first books Colin bought on this subject over 10 years ago. Since then, it has remained close at hand. Why? Because because with the rise of the matrix structure and the shared service corporate structure, more and more people are finding themselves in this challenging position. Colin and Allan share many things, including writing with the practical end in mind — to help people to succeed. When reading their books, you'll also notice that they both like to bring a bit of fun into it too!

Allan's praise of Political Dilemmas at Work included that it provides a "clear-eyed and realistic view of the way all organizations are political, since they inevitably have members with differing interests. Don't go into battle without this book".

Dr. Gary Ranker, New York, NY

Colin was introduced to Gary in 2007 and an immediate connection became obvious. As Gary put it, "I've been the Corporate Politics Coach for nearly 20 years, what's great about Colin is he seems to be able to write things exactly the way I think about them". Along with Mike, Colin and Gary wrote "Political Dilemmas at Work", published in 2008 by John Wiley & Sons. Marshall Goldsmith considers this to be "... a practical contribution to the field of management ... something quite remarkable". Gary and Colin now collaborate on many projects together including work with The Conference Board and the Marshall Goldsmith School of Management.

Gary is cited by Forbes and one of the top 5 executives coaches in America and the Financial Times have rated Gary as one of the top 50 thought leaders. Gary can be contacted at GaryRanker.com

As we all work together to grow the sort of leadership required in our complex world, Jeff's work should be part of every curriculum and leadership development programme. Colin has been an ardent fan of Jerry's research in to the field of Political Skill and has contributed greatly to Colin's own research. Over the last 20 years, Jerry has been leading the field with his research into organizational politics, perceptions of political activity and political skill. His highly acclaimed Political Skill Inventory was the first successful measurement of this skill which is so critical to success in the modern comlex organisations that we all interact with. Jerry recently remarked on Political Dilemmas at Work that "it represents the sort of positive characterization of political skill and savvy that many of us have been calling for over the past several decades".

Jerry's book, Political Skill at Work comes highly recommended to Colin's clients because, in his words "it is a highly practical and valuable contribution to the development of top level influencing skill".

Sally Bibb, Southampton, UK

Sally is an expert in employee engagement, communications and organisational change, with a practitioner’s understanding of how to engage people, what works and what doesn’t.. With this focus there is a very clear link with Colin's work on power and influence. Her research has led to very practical methods which have a huge impact for individuals and organisations. She has spent 20 years developing organisations and working with people from different generations and cultures in Europe, USA and Asia.

Little wonder that when you meet Sally, her engaging manner immediately inspires trust and confidence! Of the many books and articles she has written, probably the most enlightening is "A Question of Trust".
